Hamilton Waterfalls Update

Hello Folks:

You are receiving this email because you have signed up for our Hamilton Waterfalls Outing.

The weather forecast for out waterfalls outing in Hamilton/Ancaster looks promising. The forecast is
not indicating any early sunlight so there will be no advantage to get started too early.

I plan to drive myself. If you would like a ride or to caravan together we will meet at the QEW Car Pool
parking lot in Vineland (Victoria Ave) and plan to leave the lot at 6:45 sharp! This will put us at our first
location at 7:45 am.

We will visit Tiffany Falls first and then take the short drive to Sherman Falls after 2 to 2-1/2 hrs.

If you are planning to drive directly yourself, lets plan to meet at the Tiffany Falls Conservation Area
Parking lot on the side of Wilson St. East, Ancaster for 7:45 am. Please make sure you have coins handy (Loonies / Toonies)
as we need to pay for parking at this location. There is an automated parking kiosk at the trail head.
Two hours is more than enough time at this spot. Total cost for 2 hours of parking is in the order of
$3 to $4.

These falls will either be iced over providing for interesting frozen compositions and the possibility of ice
climbers. The trail is easy and about 5 minutes from the parking area. Wide angle, macro and telephoto
lenses will serve you well. When I last shot this location on Feb. 8 these falls were totally iced over and the
ice climbers were out in force making for some very interesting action images.

We will then travel the 2-3 km to Sherman Falls. You can literally see these falls from the road where
we park. The trail again is easy and is about a 2 minute hike. There is a greater possibility that these falls
will have flowing water. These falls offer both wide view and tight / interesting / detailed compositions.
Ultra wide angle to telephoto lenses are in order.

Impromptu Outing - Pt Dalhousie Lighthouse

This is an impromptu outing.

I am planning to do some long exposure night photography of the Pt. Dalhousie Lighthouse, weather permitting, on Saturday Oct. 25, 2014. If you are interesting in joining me, we will meet in the parking lot at the end of the North Pier for 6:15 pm and walk out as the sun sets. Dress warm as it can get quite chilly at the end of the pier. You may also want to consider picking up pocket warmers to keep the dew from forming on your lens and to keep your gear warm.

Again this is weather permitting. Keep an eye on this blog as I will broadcast a cancellation notice if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Shorthills Hike Schedule Change for Saturday October 25th

Shorthills Hike Schedule Change for Saturday October 25th

"Fall colours in the ravine valleys of the Shorthills Provincial Park have become so vibrant this past week with the recent leaf fall that a change in schedule appears warranted.  So, instead off meeting up at the Grindstone Creek Boardwalk in Hamilton we will now meet up at 9:00 a.m. at the Wiley Road entrance of the Shorthills Park for a quick tour of at least four or five nearby waterfalls  (Level of difficulty: higher moderate)

The weather looks perfect for waterfall shooting, so hopefully we will see a nice turnout!"

McLean’s Autowreckers - Fall Outing

Saturday October, 11, 2014.

We had an interesting shoot at McLean’s in the spring of this year and wanted to offer the opportunity to take advantage of the fall colour in this magnificent setting. There is always something new to shoot, or something that has changed from the last time you were there. Incidentally, this location is equally productive for the Infrared shooter!

McLean's is an active auto wreckers with a few twists. The collection of VERY old cars in the lot is unparalleled anywhere and the setting of the cars, truck and buses in the trees and lanes makes for some great shots. You can pretty much find any kind of vehicle here, from cars, School buses, service vehicles, bicycles and old delivery trucks.

The owner, John McLean, doesn’t expect anything however we like to collect $5 from each participant to pass along to John for allowing us the privilege of shooting on his 50+ acres of treasures and if you have any shots to share we will pass them along to him.

12584 Fourth Line Nassagaweya, Rockwood  - John's # 519-856-9598
Directions: From Hwy 25 ( just south of Acton) take 25 side road west, take 4th Line Nassagaweya south, the yard is just on the west side.

We will meet at the Car Pool Lot on the QEW at Victoria Ave in Vineland at 7:00 am Saturday Oct. 11 or you can choose to meet us at McLeans at 8:15 am latest.

Please send me an email if you are planning on attending.

We hope you can join us.

Ellen Annon

The Science Museum Camera Club, with support from the Buffalo Museum of Science, is proud to bring Ellen Anon to Buffalo. She will be presenting the Hayes Lecture on Friday September 20th from 6:30 pm to 9 pm in the Museum auditorium. As part of the Museum's mission bring science to the general public, this annual lecture is focused on presenting a topic of general interest with science as a component. Given the expansion of photography into everyone's hand via digital devices and photo sharing via electronic media, Ellen has been invited to explore the topics of recent book "See It, Photographic Composition Using Visual Intensity". This lecture will be on Friday September 20th from 6:30pm to 9pm in the Museum auditorium. It is free to all but a reservation is required as space is limited. So don't wait to register. Once the Museum has the number they can accommodate, registration will close. Note that the registration phone number for the lecture (716-896-5200 x 380) is an answering machine and you will not get a call back.

On Saturday September 21, Ellen will hold an all day seminar at the Museum. The seminar is intended to be interactive with participants immediately applying concepts presented. This approach will be combination of discussion of topics from her book followed by practice using the ideas presented with your camera and then group review of the photographs taken. The intent is to repeat this several times over the day so that what is presented can get used and reinforced. The seminar is a separate registration from the Friday lecture and has a $50 fee. Snacks at breaks and lunch are included. Space for the seminar is very limited. In a week or so, the Museum will promote the seminar to its patrons and other institutions in Buffalo. Ellen will have a few copies of her book available at the seminar, but it would be best to purchase ahead of time and read it.

War of 1812 Bicentennial Re-Enactment

On Saturday June 8, 2013, Grimsby's history will come alive for the re-enactment of the "Engagement at The Forty". Activities are scheduled to take place at the Grimsby 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden and Pumphouse Park. The event run from 1-5 pm. Some of the activities include:

- Demonstrations of camp life circa 1812
- Interactive dancing and games for children
- Performances by the Grimsby Pipe Band

The main event will be a land and naval re-eneactment with ship's boats, artillery, infantry, Canadian militia and First Nations allies; a time-compressed but evocative re-enactment of the actual events on the day.

Check out www.grimsbywarof1812.blogspot.ca for more information.

If you are planning to attend please send me an email.

Thanks
