NOTL - Shoot Like Richard Martin Outing

On Sat. Nov. 25 please join me for a walk-about in Niagara on the Lake. We will focus on trying to "shoot like Richard Martin". We will concentrate on in-camera image design and the minimalist and abstract style that Richard Martin attempts to capture.

If you are interested in joining us, we will meet at the corner in front of the Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara on the Lake at 9:00 am. For those interested we can grab a quick lunch at the Harp Irish Pub afterwords in the "Olde Towne".

Hope to see you there.

Bruce Peninsula – Tobermory Photo Tour

Once again this year we are planning our annual excursion to experience one of Ontario’s photographic gems. We are changing the timing of our visit this year to the weekday’s vs. an extended weekend. This is being done to avoid the increase in crowds that we’ve been experiencing.

We have planned our visit to Tobermory, ON for Monday June 5 through Friday June 9 inclusive, 2017. This trip will provide opportunities to expand your nature image portfolio. Some of the subject material that can be expected are sunrise/sunsets, grand scenic land/seascapes, wild flowers (several varieties of Orchids, Lakeside Daisies, Indian Paintbrush, Columbine, etc.), lighthouses and old stuff.

Among the usual techniques we will attempt timelapse sequences, landscape focus staking, panoramas, long exposures, and photographing the night sky. The moon phase will be moving from First Quarter (Jun. 1) through to Full (Jun. 9). Even with the influence of moonlight in the Night Sky, we will still have opportunity for some interesting nightscapes.

As in the past I’ll have a couple of Nikon IR-Converted bodies with me for loan if you want to try your hand at digital IR.

As always this will be an unguided tour however several of the participants have visited the area many times in previous years so there will be plenty of experience to draw upon to plan each day’s agenda.

If interested, please sign-up using the sign-up sheet or send me an email by April 26, 2017. I have blocked out 20 rooms at the Coach House Inn so that we can make your own arrangements. Ruth, the proprietor of the Coach House has again offered a rate of $55.00 per night single or double occupancy. We can also arrange carpooling to offset costs and consider conservation.

I will provide the usual sunrise/sunset data and weather forecast info as the date draws near.

Base of Operations:

Coach House Inn
7189 HWY 6
Tobermory, ON
N0H 2R0
(519) 596-2361

This is a popular outing so please don’t delay in letting me know if you are interested.

Butterfly Conservatory Outing

Due to its popularity we have again arranged a visit to the Butterfly Conservatory for Saturday Mar. 4, 2017. As in the past, we have been granted exclusive access to the facility from 8:00 am until 10:00 am. During this time we can use our tripods. At 10:00 am the Conservatory opens to the general public and they ask that we put our tripods away. An added bonus is that we are welcome to spend the day at the conservatory after it is opened to the general public. Another bonus as a result of changes to image entry rules, your butterfly photos can be entered in the Nature Category as well as any of the open or special competition categories.

We are committed to have a minimum of 20 participants so the cost is the same as in the past at $20 per person. If you intend to participate it is very important that you let me know ASAP via email or by adding your name to the sign-up sheet that will be available at the Feb. 8, 2017, club meeting.

On the date of the event, we will meet in behind the main conservatory parking area which is designated as the Buses and Overflow Parking Area at 7:45 am SHARP. Once inside we can store our gear and winter clothing is an area provided for our use by the Conservatory.

Members of other local camera clubs are welcome and we will accommodate as space is available. If you are interested please send me an email with your intentions.

We look forward to you joining us for this fun event.
